Our first home was a 3-level townhouse in Jamaica Plain, a hip, artsy neighborhood in Boston. It was built in 2004, and became ours in 2008. The previous owners hadn’t done a thing, so everything was quite builder-basic (think greige paint and boob lights everywhere!).
Let’s start with my favorite rooms – the bedrooms!
Boy’s Nursery
My son had a travel-theme nursery because of all the international trips my husband and I have been on. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Hawthorne Yellow, which is just like sunshine. My dad made the wood peg rack, and my mom spent hours making the roman shade and crib skirt.
We had the swivel rocking chair upholstered in Sunbrella fabric, and it repelled baby spit-up like nobody’s business. 🙂

My son’s book nook was pieced together from random things. I updated an old light from Target with some pompom trim, painted my basic bookcase from college and covered the back with wrapping paper, and used wall shelves from our old apartment.
The travel-theme alphabet cards were a true labor of love. I gathered photos from all of our trips and made the cards by designing them in Microsoft Publisher, printing them on photo paper, and gluing them to foam board. We attached them to the wall with Command strips.

Girl’s Nursery
After we learned we were expecting a girl, I couldn’t wait to start working on her nursery! We transformed this room from a dark brown, cave-like guestroom to a bright and feminine nursery. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Maritime Blue. We re-used the same furniture from my son’s room.

The alphabet cards are a free printable from The Handmade Home, and we dressed up the plain dresser with glass knobs from eBay.
IKEA spice racks painted to match the bedroom’s trim were perfect for holding my little bookworm’s board books.
This paper-covered wood monogram was an easy craft project with paint, Mod Podge, and scrapbook paper. I used some of my grandma’s old buttons to dress up the felt flowers.
Master Bedroom
Our master bedroom paint color is Santorini Blue by Benjamin Moore, and I love it so much that it graces the walls of our new master bedroom as well. In my opinion, it’s the perfect blue-gray.
The photos above our bed are from our honeymoon to Santorini, and the paint color is a perfect match for the Santorini sky!
