Did you know that Canada has their own national holiday in July? July 1 is Canada Day, which marks the anniversary of the Constitution Act of 1867. This year marks Canada’s 150th “birthday” so many Canadian bloggers are sharing clever ways to decorate and celebrate this important milestone. Today, Sarah from Flourish & Knot is showing us how to make maple leaf string art for Canada Day.
This craft project is easily customizable for non-Canadians: make the string art leaf for a fall decoration, try a heart for Valentine’s day, Christmas tree for Christmas, pumpkin for Halloween…. Once you know the basics about making string art, there are endless possibilities to create something unique for each season!
Here’s what I know about Canada
For spring break during my sophomore year of college, my friends and I headed eight hours north to Mt. Tremblant in Quebec, Canada for a few days of skiing and nights of drinking.
I have two very clear memories from that trip:
- Ordering a Sex on the Beach at a restaurant and the waiter replying in a hot Quebecois accent “We’re all out of beach, but we have plenty of sex” and his naughty joke going completely over my head.
- Riding a horse with my best friend and a guide out into the middle of the woods, and falling off the horse into 3 feet of snow.
Seems like a typical Canadian college experience, eh? 😉
All kidding aside, I enjoyed my trip and have dreams of visiting Nova Scotia and Vancouver.
Meet Sarah
If you could bring one fictional character to life, who would it be and why?
Harry Potter, but only if I also have magical powers. (Oh, Sarah I’m a huge HP fan, too!)
What’s your favorite zoo animal and why?
I love elephants! But I think we need to do a better job of protecting them in their natural habitat so that zoos aren’t necessary to preserve the population!
