Wondering what to declutter in April? You’ve come to the right place! Learn what part of your home to declutter this month and get a free printable April decluttering calendar to keep track of your tasks and progress.

“You’ve got to see this,” I said to my son on Sunday morning, as I peered into the open can of pumpkin puree that I discovered in the back of our fridge.
He’s nine, so gross things are the best things.
Thick, fuzzy mold filled half the can, and beneath it was a layer of tough, solid mold.
“Mommy, it looks like an alien was living in our fridge!”
I swear, we’re not filthy people. But somehow that half-used can of pumpkin puree festered in our fridge for months.
After that vile discovery, I reviewed everything in our fridge and pantry, and you what? There were loads of outdated items, including three boxes of teabags.
I had no idea tea could expire!
What to Declutter in April: Your Challenge
With lines forming to get into supermarkets and fresh foods in short supply, it’s more important now than ever to have a well-stocked supply of recipe staples.
Decluttering your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer is essential to create space for more food in your home so you don’t have to shop as often.
Especially in a time of uncertainty like the one we’re living in now, decluttering can be overwhelming. But, getting rid of clutter can also give us a much-needed feeling of control.
This printable monthly decluttering calendar, combined with monthly decluttering challenges like this one, will help you stay focused.

How to Use the Printable Decluttering Calendar This Month
The decluttering calendar pack has both monthly and weekly pages to help you break down your project into manageable tasks.
Monthly Calendar Pages
The decluttering calendar pack has 12 monthly pages and five weekly pages.

First, print out the April calendar page and write “food” or “pantry/fridge” in the “Project of the Month” box. Then, write in the dates since the calendar is undated.
Your first step is to divide your project into weekly categories. You could declutter based on location, like your pantry, freezer, or refrigerator. Or, tackle particular categories, such as canned goods (be sure to check out my favorite ways to organize cans).
Weekly Calendar Pages
The declutter calendar includes weekly planning pages so that you can break each category into specific tasks. If daily tasks motivate you, or you have a lot of clutter to tackle, the weekly calendar pages will help.

When was the last time you decluttered your pantry?
Try these tips, based on my speed-decluttering session over the course of a recent weekend:
- Think something doesn’t expire or hasn’t yet? Think again! If the “use by” or “sell by” date is too tiny to read or has worn off, check out this guide for pantry foods and this guide for refrigerated foods to find out the typical shelf life.
- Empty packages and recycle the containers as much as you can.
- Do NOT donate expired food to a food pantry. If you wouldn’t feed it to your family, food pantry shoppers won’t, either.
- Empty baskets and bins to remove dust and crumbs.
- Sweep up the floor or bottom shelf.
- Move the items that will expire soon to the front so you’ll use them first.
